Concrete Home ICF Home Plans & House Plans
ICF Home Plans
A common misperception is that concrete homes - ICF homes - must be built from home plans drawn specifically for ICF construction. This is not true in most cases. Many ICF websites would have you to believe that you need home plans specifically drawn for ICF construction - the motivation for misleading you is in the fact that they are selling ICF home plans. ICF professionals often times do the ICF industry a disservice by suggesting that plans need to be drawn for ICF in order to use ICF. Many ICF systems can easily adapt to dimensions that do not match the product dimension - similar to using 4' wide plywood and simply adjusting to fit the building dimension. Yes, this is easier for some ICF systems than others, but not impossible for any of them. Additionally, most builders can interpolate dimensions, and build so that interior dimensions of any plan remain as they were. ICF expert Rick Hansen tells clients where they can find ICF plans, but he also tells clients that he can work with any plan that they choose, and that they should choose a plan that they like. He also lets them know that parts of the plan, such as window size and location, can be changed during construction so that they get the size that feels right and that frames the view they wanted framed. "We can cut out foam, and/or add it" Rick Hansen said, "while they sit by their imaginary future fireplace and find the view they want. Makes for happy homeowners."
